Add a Blurred Background to an Image

Make an image fit a new canvas without cropping it. WideJPG places your original photo in the centre and creates a soft ambient blur from the same image around it.

Add a blurred background

Why use a blurred image background?

Photos taken in portrait orientation often leave empty space when used in a landscape layout. A blurred background fills that space naturally while the foreground photo remains crisp and complete. It works for product shots, event photos, mobile screenshots, and images with important text near the edges.

How it works

  1. Upload your JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, or AVIF image.
  2. Select 16:9, 9:16, or square output.
  3. Adjust the blur intensity and optionally darken the background.
  4. Download the finished image in Full HD or 4K.
Private by design.
The effect is generated locally in your browser. WideJPG does not send your photos to an image-processing server.

Blurred background versus cropping

Cropping removes parts of an image to match a target shape. A blurred background keeps the entire foreground photo intact and extends its colors and texture into the unused area. Choose black or white fill instead when you need a simpler, neutral result.
